The reception

The reception will be held at the Crystal Ballroom in downtown Portland, Oregon. It will begin at 6pm.

(Wondering what to do after the ceremony and before the reception? See the schedule page for suggested — and sponsored! — activities.)

The music will be provided by The Shanghai Woolies who, in spite of their name, play cool "hot jazz" that you can really tap your foot to, if you're so inclined.

Food and drinks will be provided by the same McMenamins enterprise that owns the Crystal Ballroom (though those of your familiar with their pub food will be either disappointed or relieved to hear that there will be no "Wilbur's Jumbo Deluxe Burger").

The dessert that takes the place of the traditional cake (which, notably, will not be a cake) will be provided by Pix Pātisserie, a place whose desserts Todd and Julia (fine, mostly Todd) can attest to as being tasty, as they have whiled away many hours there.

Getting to the Crystal Ballroom

The Crystal Ballroom is located at 1332 W Burnside Street, at the intersection of SW 14th and Burnside.

A map of this site and custom driving directions to it can be found both at Google Maps and Yahoo! Maps.

Parking near the Crystal Ballroom

The cheapest (and probably easiest) option is to find on-street parking. You only have to pay until 7pm, which will cost you $1.25, assuming you park at 6pm. However, you will likely have to park up to several blocks from the Crystal Ballroom. Other than that, there are several pay parking lots in the area:

  • Across the street from the Crystal, a multi-story lot on the corner of NW 14th and Burnside, run by City Center Parking. Rates vary.
  • On the same block as the Crystal (on the opposite corner), a surface lot at SW 13th and Washington, run by U-Park. $5–$8 for the evening.
  • Across the street from the one above, a two-story lot run by City Center Parking.
  • Two blocks south of the Crystal, a surface lot on SW 14th and Morrison. $3 per weekend day.
  • A lot near the Whole Foods on NW 13th and Couch, run by Parking Management Co.

What is the Crystal Ballroom?

A 90-year-old ballroom that today is one of the more popular rock venues (indeed, any given weekend, Todd and Julia are far more likely to see one of their favorite bands there than to, say, get married). But it is still a lovely (and yet funky) old ballroom with a really bouncy ("floating", they call it) floor. A little more information can be found on the Crystal's history page.
